Public Survey

NOTICE is hereby given,
That on Saturday the 22nd. of this Instant February, by Three o’Clock in the Afternoon, a public SURVEY will be held at the Half-Moon, Modbury, for felling Two Hundred Eighty-three Oak Trees, Great Part whereof are Capital Ones, in all Respects fit for His Majesty’s Navy.  Also fifty fine Maiden Ash, and thirty Sycamore Trees, mark’d, number’d, standing and growing on the Barton of Fowelscombe, in the Parish of Ugborough and the County of Devon, at no great Distance from the Navigable Part of the River Arm, to which they may be conveyed at an easy Expense. 

For viewing the said Timber, apply to William Reap at the Premises, and for further Particulars to Mr. George Herbert, junior, in Plymouth.

To be sold by Auction, Timber Trees, with their Tops, Lops and Bark.

The above Timber will be found well worth the attention of Dealers generally.  The Oak is sound and hearty, and the Tops of many of them contain a number of knees, fit for Boat-building.  The Ash is of excellent quality, well suited to Wheelwrights, Coopers, &c. and the Elm is long and good.  The timber consists of 721 Oaks, 93 Ash and 45 Elm.
